prayerletters.com is the leading online platform for sending printed prayer letters. Working here gives you an unparalleled view of missions around the world, along with the opportunity to provide a much-appreciated service to missionaries.

We're looking to hire a "people" person with customer service and marketing skills to provide customer support, educate missionaries on best practices for missionary communications, and promote our services.

This is a full-time, on-site position. We will also consider candidates desiring fewer hours, with a minimum of 20 regularly-scheduled hours per week.

Primary Responsibilities

In general, our expectation is that you will be learning about and passing along best practices for missionary and ministry communications, including how to use our services to do so.

This will, at minimum, include the following:

  • Write web site articles and a monthly newsletter providing advice, highlighting our services, and describing updates to our services.

  • Develop and present webinars and/or screencasts.

  • Organize our presence at conferences and training times.

  • Assist with order-related questions from customers and prospects through email, chat, and phone.

You will also be heavily involved in developing the content for our marketing materials and the various educational resources we bring to conferences and training times.

Secondary Responsibilities

We will train you in our prayer letter production process so that you can better serve our customers and fill in during peak times and vacations.

Part of your research role will include developing and running usability tests for our various services and resources.

Most days will also include dedicated time for training and projects that help us grow and improve our services. Projects will be determined based on your talents and our current needs, with a focus toward your primary responsibilities.

Qualifications

We're looking for an inquisitive "people" person with excellent written (typed) English who enjoys learning and teaching.

Because writing will be a significant component of this position, we'll want to see a bachelor of arts degree or other experience indicating that you've spent a lot of time developing your learning and writing skills.

You will need to be comfortable giving rehearsed presentations one-on-one, in front of a group, and in front of a camera. This won't be an everyday part of your job, and it won't be extemporaneous.

Some travel will be required for conferences and training, typically by plane. Our current expectation is that there will be roughly 3-5 trips per year, each lasting between two days and a week, plus travel time. International travel is an option, but will not be required.

Since we're in a niche industry, we don't expect that you'll have a significant amount of prior experience that's directly relevant to this position. We'll provide training as needed to fill in any gaps.

Please mention any prior experience in the following areas:

  • Sales or marketing
  • Teaching
  • Customer service
  • Fund-raising
  • Short-term or long-term missions
  • Streaming
  • Blogging
  • Web design
  • Usability testing

Benefits

We provide competitive pay, healthcare coverage (if you're full-time), and matching retirement contributions, along with up to four weeks per year of paid time off between holidays and vacation.

You'll have a private office, a quiet working environment, and whatever tools help you be most effective at your role.

You'll also get the benefit of vicarious involvement in missionary work around the world that's typically available only to the executives of global missions organizations.

Location

Our office is located at 30 Airport Road, West Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Lebanon is located half-way up the New Hampshire/Vermont border, near Dartmouth College, with a regional population of about 100,000. It was named Best Small Town in America by Livability.com for its economy, educational system, civic engagement, and amenities.

The area offers great living conditions (if you don't mind snow during the winter), plenty of activities for the outdoors enthusiast, and easy access to Boston, Manchester (NH), Burlington (VT), Montreal, and New York City.

Our office is centrally located near the intersection of two interstates, making for an easy commute regardless of where you live in the area.

How to Apply

Send us a letter from the contact us page, including the following:

  • Why you're applying to work here.

  • Why you'd be a good fit as our communications specialist.

  • An example of a time you've had to make a trade-off (or encourage someone else to do so) between time, cost, and quality. Include details about how you made a decision, as well as whether you'd make the same decision in retrospect.

  • An example of an excellent customer service experience that you've received recently, along with what made it special.

Please also include the following writing samples:

  1. Respond to a missionary asking if we will design their letter. This isn't a service we offer.

  2. Respond to a missionary who has complained that they've received returned letters from people who they know have updated addresses in their mailing list. Upon researching the issue, we discover that they sent us an outdated list.

  3. Provide a brief tutorial explaining how to save a PDF from Pages or Word (or whichever word processor you know best).
